Here we sit,
on couches and sofas
with feet on ottomans,
crunching Doritos,
sipping Pepsi,
watching TV
in a comfortable oblivion.

Breaking newsflashes
unravel our complacency,
pulling the thread
of a self-weaved fantasy--
safety among the sanguinary,
flesh-hungry masses
of a patchwork world.

The Unicorns of American life
scatter like gnats
before a swatting hand
on a cool september morning
with dewdrops redly coating
the apple of our eye.

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You, sweet friend, I too feel after this horrible tragedy it helped us all to get up and reach out to one another with compassion and faith and helped us get closer in trusting Him above! May we all reach our love out to one another and send our prayers and sympathies to the victims families, sweet friend, this is powerful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Wonderful write!  It's amazing how quickly our materialistic, over-indulgent societal selves were thrown on our faces!  And how sad that it takes tragedy to remind us of reality.  But we are a patchwork world and we all must love for the sake of compassion.

Dear geenabee, Your meta4s sting as they should.  Excellent!!!  There is no one who isn't a victim of some kind to these attacks.. and we all stand blinking even a year later, "what happenned" as our complacency lay shattered with the buildings leveled and the friends we lost.

Gonna have to look for more of you here in the blue too.

Personally, I don't eat Doritos or drink Pepsi, and I don't have an ottoman either.
I understand this message, and thank you for sharing it.
BTW, welcome to Pips.

Your first stanza got me a bit paranoid----I thought you must have had a videocamera hidden in my family room! tehe

This is what I refer to as a right-write. You say it as you see it--and you don't sugar-coat a thing.
