She stood there with her torch held high
To watch planes falling from the sky
As silver bullets ripped apart
The center of her loving heart
With disregard for sanity
In senseless act of lunacy
She saw her children fall and die
The day I saw my lady cry.

I LIFT MY LAMP....so reads her plaque
Just miles from terrorist attack
Her open doors now violated
By pure evil orchestrated
Hounds of Hell have been released
And Good must rise to kill the Beast.
I saw her head droop, shaking "Why?"
The day I saw my lady cry.

Her tears will bring on bitter rain
Unleashing winds of hurricane
To circle globe in whirlwind force
Uncover evil at its source
Then seek exacting recompense
From those who prey on innocents.
They'll not forget, as time goes by,
The day they made my lady cry.

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You, sweet friend, they can make our Lady Liberty weep but as God is her witness and all of ours we will all rise to God with hope and faith and as always our Lady of Peace will continue to stand tall with might and cry freedom! (big hugggssssss) My prayers and heart goes out to all the children and those afflicted by this tragedy, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Michael...Your words have captured the feelings of that terrible day so well.
I wish for all of us that we never would have had to write about such a sad time that will never be forgotten...Paul

Michael, this was one of the most profound and touching pieces I read in the aftermath of this tragedy, and it remains so. A beautiful and introspective piece.

Hugs to you and all, on this day of remembrance,

Oh Balladeer, this is so sad. My heart goes out to everyone whose lives were lost that day. And, especially to the families who lost loved ones on that terrible day.

I swear I am lucky that I am not a "hunt and peck" typist.  I cannot see the keyboard at present and my makeup is the least of my cocerns right now as I type in tears.
Most excellently said, Michael.

I read this one the first time around and it still evokes strong emotions 1 year later.  You are a phenomenal poet, 'deer (I wonder how many times I've told you that over the years here), and you've done excellent with this one.

Michael...I could say that this didn't bring
tears,  chills,  and sadness from within my
heart...  I can't....for it would be the
greatest lie of my life...

Thank You for sharing this yet again...I was
not here last year to read this....I am glad
you brought it back out for us to read...

Save it,  I know I will see it again...

Across the world tears are falling even here
as we remember.

Great poem is all i can say.

You are a good poet as soon as you try to reach others with your words.
You are a great poet when those same words touch your heart first.

Wonderful, Balladeer. All the pics are fantastic, but that last one brings tears for sure! Thanks for posting again, I didn't see it before.

’Deer dearest heart, beautiful and simply perfect. This is one day when words fail me totally. Thank you for the love within and the power of this, and I’m crying too, as I have been all day.

Everyone here knows how much I love to banter back and forth with this old coot....but all of you know deep in my heart I thinks he's one of the best folks here...not just with his unlimited talent but as a person....I've printed this poem, I read it almost every day, I've taken copies to my church, (Of course I told everyone I wrote it)..LOL....but few people, (not only here but anywhere) can match this man's wit and talent and true love for his country........(Okay Balladeer, I wrote it word for word as you asked, now can I have the keys back to my Porsche?)....Seriously.....I do respect Mr. Balladeer...

Thank you all again....every reply is special to me

Toerag, you old dunce, people ask me occasionally if I ever get insulted by your vile, evil taunts hurled my way and I tell them, "Nope, Toe and I can do that to each other because, underneath it all, is a deep respect and friendship that make it all ok." Thanks for enforcing that, my friend
