~The Stone Chipmunk~

Although you never speak
I think you have the hots for me
you're always there, in my front yard
as if to oversee

I want to feel your warmth
but all I feel is stone
yet your vigilance is constant
outside my little home

you stand there, day and night
on this fancy water tower
and when I look real close
I see the shadow of the hour

a puddle in the center
satisfies my thirst
but every time I drink here
I see you've been here first

I've tried to share my acorns
but no interest did you show
you're probably a snob
who only eats pistachios

oh I must stop thinking of you
I know you'll only cause me pain
with your heartless stony ways
you can drive a girl insane
~

Lyra, do you know how much this says about you and your goals for life?  SO much!  How pleased I was to see this here today!  And how cornfused that poor little Chippiemunk must be!  Give her some extra grain from me!

Thanks so much, Mike Squirrel...
I don't think she's trying to ease him away...
I think she has the hots for him also... afterall, it is mating season.
She just can't understand why he watches her all the time but doesn't respond.

Believe it or not,  This chipmunk lives in our front yard...  Her burrow is right under our privacy fence;  and one day we heard her chipping really loud and as we looked out the window...this is what we saw.

Thanks Karilea... I will give her some extra corn for you...  She lives under the privacy fence in our front yard, and we've been feeding her.  I can't believe I actually got this photo!  I took it through a slot in the window blinds...  She was just chipping away, standing on that sundial... loudly scolding that stone chipmunk. We've been watching her and she jumps up on the sundial and drinks out of the puddle in the center which is always there because of the sprinkler system.
I don't understand the part about my goals in life...  I really don't need to flirt with that stony guy... I am a married chipmunk...  Please explain if you will...
I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.

I'm glad you enjoyed...  This is our pet chipmunk and the picture was taken through the window blinds...
We've been feeding her every day so that she won't have to go hunting for her food and that way, we can keep her here...
I would say that she has herself a pretty good deal... wouldn't you?

I still can't believe that picture came out!
We heard her there and it was early in the morning, so we peeked through the blinds, and not wanting to wake her... I just snapped the photo through one of the slats.

I took it through a slat in the window blinds because I didn't want to scare the chipmunk away.  She was just sitting up there and chipping away angrily at that stone chipmunk.  I think she was probably trying to get his attention... thats what sparked the poem.
