(Here's a poem I worked out in Spanish then wrote out the English translation! I have been taking many lessons in Spanish and am fascinated by the language and culture and this came to my head after days of practice! ![]() ![]() Y Arriba Y Arriba By: Noah Eaton 9/7/02 Just a morning, just a silent morning Slip on my sandals and walk down the grove Swaying, swaying with the Mexican blue palms Staring out from the crows nest Waiting to hear you calling below Upon the white beaches of the Yucatan And you took my hand and begged me "Let's find a place up there, up like an aracari And up, and up we'll find our aerie And ring the captain's bell and conquer these seas Let's make it while we still have time!" You spoke, you spoke like a Altamira oriole With a breath like roasted chile peppers And lips flowing with the wine of kalamata olives Making handprints on the sand Frolicing in the markets of Andalucia And you took my hand and asked me "Let's find a place up there, up like an aracari And up, and up we'll find our aerie And ring the captain's bell and conquer these seas Let's make it while we still have time!" Where do we go from here? Where are you going? Where have you gone? Where would you like to go? You must be... For time will set us free... You spoke, you spoke like a laughing falcon Echoing the proverb "When the owl hoots, the Indian dies" And I held, and I held you at the palm of my hand Seeking that Fountain of Youth That Ponce de Leon couldn't find... And you took my hand and begged me... "Let's find a place up there, fly like an aracari And up, and up we'll find our aerie And ring the captain's bell and conquer these seas Let's make it while we still have time!" Just a morning, just a silent morning Slip on my sandals and walk down the grove Swaying, swaying with the Mexican blue palms Staring out from the crows nest Waiting to hear you calling below... "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." Shakira [This message has been edited by Mistletoe Angel (09-07-2002 11:06 PM).] |

Noah, you continually amaze me with your writing skills. I am so impressed that you can speak Spanish. This is beautiful and I am now longing to sit on the beaches of the Caribbean. Hugs, Marti Every now and then take a good look at something not made |

This is great, Noah. My Spanish has way too many gaps to know if you got it right, but it looks way impressive. I love this line: You spoke, you spoke like a laughing falcon fantastic sounding simile! Exciting, moving poem. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
