The Fear Of Fear

Her eyes red with constant pain
She drifts aimlessly across a void
A chasm of her own making
A gap in feeling
An absence of knowing
She drifts without
Thought or reason

Only her lost and lonely soul
Bewails her loss
She cries in her heart
Sobbing with fear that she'll never
Hold the hand of love again
She can't move on
Because she has no
Direction she has no purpose
Nothing to goad her
Into doing something
Anything
Other than drift
In a pool of sorrow

In her heart is a light
It is there even still and it calls her
Summons her to tomorrow
Calls her to a future that
Waits to unfold for her
Waits to call her back
To life and to love

But only by letting the fear
Of loss depart can she
Move on to a brighter tomorrow
And she loves the fear
She doesn't want to let it go
She thinks it grounds her
Anchors her
Instead it binds her
Confines her to this place of
Heart's lonely tears

Out there the voice of hope calls
Come to me come
Softly persuading, endlessly soothing
But she would rather hold
To what she knows than
Cede to the unknown
The unfamiliar
Because of the fear
She fears she'll lose it again
And then will be lost forever

So she drifts lonely and forlorn
And stays where her soul is wracked
By the pain she knows and understands

There is no exit for the soul
That has lost its vision
The only thing you have to fear
Is the fear of fear itself

Learn from your mistakes
Next time you won't make them
And you can break the chain
That holds you

Else you may too wander the lonely abyss
Seeking an exit to heal your soul

Krissy

Mum's phrase challenge this weeks phrase…….
Only by letting the fear of loss depart can the soul move on to tomorrow

And while thy willing soul transpiers
at every pore with instant fires

This is so sad. But well written

Frankling Roosevelt said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

I agree since fear is simply False Evidence Appearing Real.

Well done Krissy.  You do your mum proud and we readers a great service

Krissy,
I came for the title to a Bauhaus song;
I stayed for the aching verse.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Krissy, this is so very sad but true, sweet friend, yes, we must always try again even if it aches the first time or these same mistakes will always be haunting us! (sigh) This is heartfelt, sweet friend, this sounds like a wonderful challenge, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Krissy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Krissy oy you and what darling daughter do you call this? Who gave you permission to write so well? Hmmmm? Did I say it was okay to outshine your mummy? I think beloved daughter mine that I shall simply have to tell you that I love it and not to do it again.

‘Tis not fair darling. This is excellent writing darling now cease and desist immediately or I shall be forced to go to sleep on your shoulder throughout the whole flight and pin you to your seat. Now that is a promise I can easily keep
I wub you too

Love you always
and forever

This poem aches and I ache with it. I love the lines that say she loves her fear, how many of us do?

There's a lot of insight in this one. Fear isn't easily defeated, once it gets a hold on someone.

But she would rather hold
To what she knows than
Cede to the unknown
The unfamiliar
Because of the fear
She fears she'll lose it again
And then will be lost forever

This has so many incredibly verses (and hard truths *S*) it was hard for me to choose a favorite part... Fear does sing its own particular siren song... and you've written that so very well!
