My heart bleeds in the pain of caring Steel eyes say I do not For the truth can not filter through Determination from past experiences Chill the compassion to help For the roads you burned are yours And no bridge will forge Your island of self destruction In front of your presence My sprit rides the heavens But as soon as I turn away The tears show the truth And the prayers kiss my lips While in the background You curse my name on yours The show is of your making And the audience is now waning Tired from your excuses Of changing for the better Promises that contain so much hot air That they deflate your heart in pity My last attempt now seems long ago But the spiraling misery Still keep you company It is a strange bed fellow That uses friends as an excuse To get by until depleted by disgust So my friend a say a due I have better things to do But the worst part of it You will always look over your shoulder With one tear caring Hoping that they can build back Your self respect With no excuses D.Lester Young 9/5/2002 Tuscaloosa, AL Copyright © D.Lester Young (White Eagle poetry) |
