Firefly Stars

Enameled eyes
return gaze from mirror,
staring back,
expressionless.

A smaller world than before,
my heaven is now that of fireflies,
not stars.
Both breath and step,
forever shortened.

Hidden away,
only the tides know me intimately
and only seabirds
record my voyage.

You would kiss me,
if you could,
wouldn't you?

Yes,

you would kiss me.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

..."My heaven is now that of fireflies, not stars."    So poetically poignant!

The stars may be out of reach, but the fireflies are not----they can light up your world.

Lovely Michael. Chris

Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away.

Oh Michael, there's so much here...the sad realization and wishfulness is well expressed with equally great imagery and theme.  Your pen is gifted, indeed     You said it of my poem, I'll say it of yours..this is hauntingly beautiful~

Take care,
Melissa~

Michael

Poignant...the size of what you see...as far as breath, as clear as see.

Yes, I would kiss you for this, and because you are you.
