it was inevitable leaving the room she waited at the top of the stairs for the laughter for the sounds of familial camaraderie never disappointed she sat on her bed hugging her pillow dressed in a hand me down nightie and crying quietly in the dark summer night tired and hot, she opened a window heard the crickets sing heard the wind in the maple tree and wondered if there would ever be a place where she felt she belonged silence caught her attention good night words whispered stairs creaking quickly hiding her wakefulness she waited until they slept and then she left her bed outside she stood in the dark unafraid of what was there knowing that the pain she felt from the loneliness was worse than any that would befall her it was inevitable that she would remember those nights and live them again alone wistful wishes for imagined times with them hearing laughter but those days would never return never be again and in the dark of night she stands listening to the wind and the crickets hearing the ghostly sounds of familial camaraderie |

No one writes the hollow core of sadness as well as you do, PdV. And that "hollow" core is so rich with meaning and insight. Always love yr work. These smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun. |

Sharon, this is a beautiful and melancholy piece. You've woven the scene vividly, and wrapped it with emotion. Very much enjoyed! Best wishes, /Kit |

(big huggsssssss) Oh Sharon, this is so very sad, sweet friend, my heart goes out to this person you speak of, for it saddens me to realize that this pain will always be with them and the only other thing that is inevitable is that perhaps some joy can overshadow the pain that always returns! (sad sigh) This is powerful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you!
