I took a thin white-graveled path behind our cabin in the woods. The cool dark hush soon opened out into a country lane. The day grew warm, the sun grew hot, the track came to an end; I faced an asphalt road. Far to the left it seemed to smooth, almost like glass. Far to the right it seemed as though the road just disappeared. I stood perplexed. Which way should such a simple traveler as I essay? Faced with such choices I sat down and thought to pray. But I was tired, the sun was hot, my shoes burned on my feet. I took them off and soon my toes began to feel so light, I stood to dance upon the verge—and asked myself, why should I go down any road? And so, ran home again. Nan |

As anyone can tell you ... I love imagery filled words and you painted quite a vivid scene for us with this one. The read was not only a delight but also the composition was a treat just in the flow and smoothness throughout the piece. Well done. |

Lyra, When I was a kid I loved barefootin' -then I grew up and got tenderfooted.Mark, Thanks-I tried to do iambic pentameter throughout the poem. It's such a smooth meter it helps anything I do. Walt, Thanks! EagleScorpion- I didn't think he'd mind. Do you think he's really upset? Should I watch out for lightning bolts? Kethry-Sort of an off-dirty-white color, actually. And they didn't click so much as thump together! :lol: Dark-sounds like a happy restful time. Nan |
