somebody's dungeon

Between the mighty pines
sit's a dogwood tree
though bathed in shadow
it blooms in the spring.

Pure white flowers
blossoms of perfection
falling from this tree
looking like confection,

mixing with the nettles
that fall from the pine
on the forest floor
in the spring time.

I wonder do the pines
shelter the little tree
raining down pine cones
haphazardly.

I see no birds
not one nest
no woodpeckers hacking
like little pests.

The tall green pines
like soldiers stand guard
protecting the Dogwood
from any harm.

In the town I live in, nearly every house has a dogwood and in the Spring the color is amazing. In late summer, the Kousa Dogwood's bloom and many of them are pink.

But none are as lovely your little one protected by the mighty pines.

I really enjoyed this.  Marti

Very nice. I'm curious, W.R., do you know the legend of the dogwood tree?

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(smiles) Oh Anne, this is wonderful, did you know also that the dogwood is also a very spiritual plant? Legend says that the trees flowers represents Jesus and His reminder of His crucifixion, in which the blood from the crown of thorns doesn't only represent grief but also faith knowing His love lives on and He has saved us all! (sigh) This is a wonderful beautiful poenm, sweet friend, just thought I'd share that story like Virginia asked because it touches my heart deeply too, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Anne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I did not know the legend of the Dogwood tree. A wonderful legend it is. It makes the Dogwood that much more magical for me.
