Listening to every heart

Some Are Understandings

Colorless, still,
remaining a memory
of summer and sun
Tahoe cold
as only the deeper
recesses of the lake might be

light-weighted floats
grasping hand
still waters never threatening
except to a mother’s fear

that was a summer
though young, how young must it be
to have an old soul thrive
within

that was a summer
of hearkening, hearing, the first tremors
of realize
realize
who you might one day be

the far away mountains heard
oh they heard

oh
they heard…

though faint, the laughter
of the soul
skipped across the waters
and in looking back
there is now knowledge
that there was looking forward

from the beginning…

the horizon was mine
all for the walking

even

across the water…
