I am still standing
in a side turn - slight sway
with half my blood drawn
and copper pots catching.
I am only wiser for this.
And poetry is free
or can be if we are willing
to risk the tarnish aged in waiting
with a liquid burn
something like my eyes at midnight
and tainted drool slurred slow
even slower than yesterday
and the way it hung
in fingered windows
palm shots begging to get out.
And I am still standing
by the naked glass
for free, for poetry
for the remains of wanting
on a Friday afternoon
too soon again to tell
and you slide past
glance later
in a pierce of wonder
that surrounds selfishness
sick slow the knowing
until it follows
swallows you into regarding it
normal somehow.

Wow, a lot is in this poem, I’m not sure I understand all you are trying to say, but I like the way you move from image to image.  It’s not a smiles poem, but it does make you think and that’s a good thing.

Alicia

The places you travel are blood and sinew that I feel more than understand...and if poetry is free, why do I feel that I (you?) pay for it with an exposed heart?

It is always a good experience to read you!

It is probably best
that I tell you
Sounds of Silence
is playing as I read this...

and right off hand
I cannot say that I would have
chosen other music
to accompany
these haunting words...

These pen strokes have the taste of iodine, the nimbus of quicksilver. Images through window's pain and the stark wintry chill of one underdressed and getting used to it by degrees. Of course this means I liked it.

Well, this is above normal, I should say.  An enjoyable piece.
But the rest of it?  Yes, more normal than we would like to think, especially when we get only the glance.
