She had a face just like an angel
And a smile to warm the sun
But her flame had been extinguished
Her death was such a tragic one

There is a shrine left in her memory
Flowers adorn her picture frame
She was just nineteen years of age
And Elise was her name

As I pass by here each day
I see her face smile back at me
A rose is painted in her honour
Here her spirit has been set free

Her death was just so senseless
But her memory will live on
With the love shown from her family
She will never really be gone

* * * *

This week in our local paper there was
an article about this shrine near my
home that a local resident had complained
about as she passed by it.Due to
this complaint the council took down
the shrine and all the flowers without
consulting the mother or the family.
I had previously written a poem about
Elise many months ago and had spoken
to the mother, Maree and I was just
outraged when I read this, not believing
people could be so selfish and
disrespectful.I wrote to the local
paper and they put my letter into
print.Due to the outrage of many
the shrine has been put back in its
rightful place.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Sue, my heart goes out to Elise, I too can't understand how some can be so disrespectful but I am relieved the shrine is back where it was at it should be! (kiss on cheek) This is powerful, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

And that is why angels smile...
for those who are righteously outraged...
and do something about it.

Sue, your poem is beautiful and the story made me cry. I understand why you were so upset. Caring, loving hearts are easily torn by injustice and stupidity.

Hopefully Elise is buried somewhere close so that her Mom can go to her grave and visit her.

I loved both your poems. Hugs my friend,
Marti

Sue:  What a sense of accomplishment you must feel for having been able to restore Elise's shrine to it's rightful place.  The power of the pen!  Amazing isn't it?

This is a beautiful poem, Sue...
It brought tears to my eyes...and then I read your explanation, and I have to say...I am very proud of you for standing up for what is right.

GO GIRL....Whenever anyone is blessed by such a shrine, and such a beautiful poem no one should be allowed to remove it...MY hat goes off to you.
Good work!!!
