Dog Days
Sultry oppressions
Heavy lie of night
On blankets of dry earth
Such that even crickets complain
That legs rubbed together
Do not bring mating calls
But friction adding
Risk of over heated words

Late summer holds tight
The parched throat of garden
Choking life from beauty
With strangling denial of even dew

I rise early now
To catch at least a glimpse
Of peaceful repose on your face
Hoping for showers to move through
On fronts traveling slow

Dog days
Wear thin the facades
Of lush promise I once heard
Fall with tinking delight from the bow
Of your upturned lips

Anticipating
Wet welcome
I have found
Drought

Nobody says it like you do Cap'n Ron... Don't worry, though - Fall is almost here.. That's a whole new world...

...and 'tis everywhere,
it seems, except in the corners
of our minds,
where we still water thoughts
in promise of gardens to flower...

welcome home, Cap'n.

hey you---be careful what ya wish for (remember a gal named Allison?) and yep, I know, it's damnedhot--seems appropriate though. Have missed reading you, Cap!

Hi Ron

Enjoy the way nature mimics life in your poetry.  A view through draught into the way your heart feels.  It's good to see you posting again.

A wonderful write Ron, fraught with meaning, as usual

Going to be around for awhile?

Many thanks to all that took the time to read and comment!!!! Business seems to be much in the way of me writing and spending time here with only the occaisional scribble crossing this feeble mind of mine....and even less often me having the opportunity to drop into this wonderful place and share it. I do read the poems from time to time still amazed at the wonderful writers here...and the wonderful feeling of family that seems to be present. I miss the interaction with all of you.....but feel blesssed to know this place is here..and that all of you share the talent you have in such a free and giving way. Again....many thanks to you all....your comments given in spite of my lack of attention to this place and the works of all is indeed a precious gift to me these days...

I would taste the words
as they rolled off my tongue
some salty from tears shed
others bitter with experience
or melting sweat as if all love
was rolled in confectioners sugar
and life indeed was a treat.

All indeed leave me wanting more
and you dear friends
have fed my appetitite
for beauty.

Well I guess you should have been in Michigan, last Thursday night, Ron...
We had the mother of all thunderstorms along with tornadoes, and stuff flying around.

I loved your poem.
