you were one of the johnny bob boys
in girl skin with fall down trophies
where your broom stick pony bucked
or an arrow pretended to kill your tree

we didn't talk about ladies and their men then
except when they were loud talkin' mouths
with the yell buckets all moms and dads had
and the stingy wallets that didn't know treasures

the creek behind the lumber yard was heaven
on summer afternoons when the fishin' was good
or just swimming in cutoff jeans and tee's
'til yours got funny shapes and you were shy

seemed afternoons were for soda shops then
your knees healed into long lady legs
and the creek was still heaven some nights
when we bared our secrets in the water

and talked about the ladies and their men
.

Yes growing up is always difficult. And each is a play in itself. Enjoyed

And he made a daisy chain for her hair..
their tanned skin touching as he placed it upon her head.
Love these memories Dark,
seems like yesterday..
when the world was young.

DS

I think we all have a memory place like this one.  Loved this look at your growing up, hurtful and sweet.  Hugs!
