Maybe

The black sky seeped raw wounds, exposing pain
on muted earth that overlapped the tide
erasing hand etched "I love you's" in the sand
where wild horses run free of it's knight holding me...
as life hasn't given me that promise yet.

Once again, I throw flames to the fire,
wishing that the wind would come along
and sweep me off my feet to slow the burn,
of this, my personified prince peeling each layer
to sting my eyes with finally!

I am Eve, reaching blindly for the fruit
with arms outstretched on the edge of desire
in sweet sadism and vulnerability
of skin eyes rubbing weep with scar tissue.

Temptation trickles over lips
but, the hunger cannot be sated
when mind mirrors of faceless lovers
shine the screams on poison apples
and fairytale abandonment.
Stubborn, I just can't leave well enough alone,
and I question that there must be something more
as impatience slides through fingers, broken heart, pensive pen,
with more unread, untitled words written in wait.

And, when the wind changes direction
I reveal everything that remains in the silt,
though, somewhere, a kindred kind shall see it all as gold,
and pick flowers that speak to me,
that touch places, hard to reach
like feathers kneading skin, inside out.

I want, I crave, I feel
so, someone please tell me
that Camelot is real,
that faith is believing in a power you can't see,
knowing that 'perhaps' is half full on it's way to yes
rather than he loves me not redundance
in an all too sobering empty glass of impossible fantasies.

Life still hasn't given me that promise
of a signed, sealed and delivered kiss,
so, tonight, I think I'll beat fate by joining him
and count the falling stars.

It's time I settle for lowered expectations,
to find beauty in the perfect of imperfection,
it's all I have left,
this hope, unstill, of breath held in 'maybe.'

Incredible Melissa, your words still are so very beautiful!!  I have missed seeing them much.

Enjoy life, this is NOT a dress rehearsal.

Mellissa,
Your writing is excellent.
I want, I crave, I feel
so, someone please tell me
that Camelot is real,
It can't get much better than that.

I read this as the rain and storms passing through we at their finest moment....what a tremendous read this is, pulling emotions out and placing them softly before me....hugssss

Camelot is hidden not gone..like a rare jewel..I gave up and decided to just not yearn any more and Camelot pinched me in the butt when i least expected it...
Mygawd  sweetlady, your wonderfully penned words are so very exquisite! I love to go through and read yours over and over again..like fine wine sipped by the fire.
hugs to you, Cher (Koko)

to find beauty in the perfect of imperfection,

I loved this poem, Melissa...
It is totally beautiful...
and I especially love the above quote...

I have always found beauty in imperfection.
Just think about Barbra Streisand's large nose, or the imperfect beauty of a sand dune.

Maybe its just the way I view things...but I hate things that are perfectly symmetrical.
My husband is always amused by that...
and I saw much of this in your poem.

"It's time I settle for lowered expectations,"

never. . . it never works. . .

you know this side so well. . . and you tell it with your whole heart. . . which is why it's so good. . .
