In Response to the Phantom Walks

I heard the step, and shadows dare
As my heart leapt, to show my care
A whisper'd word, are you still there?
I heard the step, and shadows dare.

Oh blue walls of Passion, please
Draw my love's sigh in the breeze
And let him know that he may seize,
Oh blue walls of Passion, please!

The step it lingered, then fell quiet
My heart it faltered, then in riot
It beat so loudly, that he should hear it!
The step, it lingered, then fell quiet.

Did he hear this beating heart?
The one that began in earnest start
For it was by the love that he would impart
Did he hear, did he hear, this beating heart?

But lo, the steps now fall away
My head is bowed, what can I say?
'Tis not our time, nor is it our day...
And lo, the steps now fall away...

Oh, Passion’s Walls, hear this, my cry
That he would not linger to hear my sigh
And heavy now this heart, goodbye,
As Passion’s Walls hear this, my cry.

Tis but a mome', a memory
Tis but a second you see
as I walk these blue halls
no shadow gracing the walls

Come to me my fairest maid
with thy beauty most displayed
Let thy hair fall before thee
Let my arms hold most tenderly

For thy art most fair of all
as I walk the blue, this hall
Take my arm and we shall dance
Take it now,  is but one chance

I know your heartbeat
my heart beats in tune with yours
it shall always be

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
