"I just wanted to die for a little while"
said the teenage girl after a failed suicide

She hadn't thought of the foreverness
of such an act, born in grief

Hell,
Grief

Which came first?
Which less painful?

The ancient jews tore at and off their
clothes in cases of deepest grief

Diarrhesso, Greek word
for rend

Circa 1500 Hieronymus Bosch
paints damnation's victims naked

Early 1600's the ship symbol of flying colors
half mast, a survival of the days when
slovenly appearance characterized mourning

Rhett Butler's unshaven sentinel of his dear
Bonnie's body for days clothed in hypnotic grief

I recall 30 months ago being shred in despair,
quite bare in depression when I clothed myself
in poetry

This week I almost believed
Love's emperor had new clothes

Grief?
Hell!

Interesting write.

(Curious how teens fell invincible and yet embrace suicide.)

and you will clothe yourself in poetry again, for as long as it keeps you warm, for as long as it takes to heal ... and you will, in time, find yourself wearing a coat of many colors again. It will match your gifted poets hat perfectly.

Very Powerful and informative.

That last section, especially from "Love's emperor..." on, is powerfully exquisite!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

To say I am impressed
is to smack myself up the side
of the head...
consider my head, smacked...

Richard

You clothe yourself in hard hurt, bitter and biting...you wear poetry well.
