*for my Father, Alfred Garcia (1934-1977)* I know why you stayed you stayed to help me on this path but, it’s time for me to go on it’s time for me to go on my own this is the place where you and I must part you have your own reward to go on to as I have mine but, please don’t think that I’m not thankful that you stayed I am I know that it was very hard for you to stay knowing what you were giving up the last measure of your life the last and final resting place for your soul all so that I could be what you wished for me to be so that I could have a better life than you so that I could be the son that you could be proud of so that then, I didn’t have to learn the lessons on my own that I could always know that you were there guiding me, protecting me, keeping me but now, you’ve been here far too long I’ve learned all that I can from you some of the lessons were hard, yes but, I’ve learned them now under your watchful eye, guided by your hand, touched by your heart and now, I know that you’re tired, that your Spirit wants to go, but that you’re afraid you’re afraid that you’re leaving me behind with nothing that I’ll forget all the things that you’ve done for me all the things that were you that are now me you’re afraid I’ll forget but, I have your name, and your eyes, and all the best things that you could leave me with, I have them now, and they will go on they will go on as you must now go on you must now go on to learn the lessons that you could not learn here lessons that you could not be taught by life but lessons that can only be taught there, on that other plane, in that other place lessons that you need to learn to become what you were finally meant to be so go now, go now Father of my Spirit go to that place where you will finally be where your life will finally have its fullest meaning where they wait to welcome you with open arms, hearts and souls go now to where it is you belong and when you’ve learned the lessons that you were meant to learn come back then, come back and share with me those lessons I might not understand them, but I know that I’ll be ready to learn I’ll be here, learning my own lessons, being who I was meant to be finding that which I have been meant to find all my life becoming that which I have been destined to become always remembering where I have been, but never losing sight of where I’m going it’s time now the light calls to you go go and know, that in this world, as in the next there are only partings there is never goodbye never goodbye Requiem aternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

Hello Sven This was such a heartfelt piece of writing that I could so relate to. I lost my father to asbestos cancer three years ago and his memory and his love lives on in me. There's not a day goes by when I don't think of him and I feel that he is the reason that I began writing poetry just over a year ago. Take care.....Sue Suetang |

John, this is so touching...I don't even know what to say. It brings tears. I started one of my Dad to post for tomorrow and it seems it's so heartbreaking to write about him. But, I still plan on posting it. No, it's never good-bye, you are so right! thank you all my friends. . . a while ago, I asked some of my fellow poets "what was the one poem that they hadn't written yet?" for me, this was the poem, it was the one poem that I had not written yet. . . it was the one thing that I had not been able to put into words. . . to finally let go, and to continue down the path on my own. . . this was very hard to do, very hard to get the words out onto paper. . . but, they came. . . along with a lot of other feelings and emotions. . . and now, it's time for me to continue. . . and go on. . . thank you all my friends. . .thank you for your continued support of me and my work. . . it means more to me than you can know. . . ------------------------------------------------------------ To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
