The Birth After I’ve walked the beach for a while, after I’ve kicked a jellyfish that I thought was merely a plastic bag, after I’ve berated myself for doing a dumb thing like that, in tears I hobble to a soft pile of sand and plop down to rub my aching toes. The pain subsiding, I slowly exhale, remembering why I decided to take a walk. It’s finally time for the birth of my grandchild. As I walk the shoreline once more, like soft cotton balls dabbing at my sore feet, sea foam gathers around my toes. Enjoying the sudden relief, I take a breath of salty sea air. The sky is blue, and the sun is shining. As it should be. Smiling, I head for the car. All is well. Now I can go home and wait for the call. This is a truly endearing piece. I especially enjoyed the last stanza... although the first one sent panges of jellyfish sting up my leg! Wonderful tactile imagery, and wonderful write. Life-- "Although most elements are taken from reality, some have been exagerated for dramatic clarity." |

Thank you all. The part about the jellyfish really did happen! OUCH!! The part about the grandchild is still a wait and see thing. My hopes for the future. Hugs to all! Deb |
