Rhinestone Me

Here I strut of colourless glass
against the restlessness of menagerie,
wild in a cage of cheap knock-offs
waiting for my diamond dreams.
The yearn is deep to twist 'round the fingers of filigree
to drape across the neck of silken skin
of beautiful, flawless, and priceless affection,
yet, I am none of these,
as I am only an ornamental overdose of artificial glitz
slowly fading my lustre
for a moment to shine in the sun.

How tragic to live by the maker's decree
unwilling of inanimate weep,
though here I masquerade of pasted collage
with my simulated sparkle and hollow facets,
a mime of gems and fools,
lest they see my pain in their reflection.

So it goes that I am worthless
worn by dozens of lifeless entities
in pretend pose of something more
though being less
merely placed to decorate that empty space that is I,
an imitation of life.

Amazing, Melissa. Is this how the rhinestone feels? A sad way..but surely you are a diamond..

I don't think anyone with any reason of sanity could call YOU an IMITATION.  Very nice to see you back and of course to read your works.  Very intriguing perspective you show here and done with a true gem of a write.  Enjoyed it much.

Love the perspective in this Melissa!
Great creative material!

Love this...

Now that's poetry!

Melissa,
Worthless rhinestone, eh? Guess that makes you something else...like a real gem! More, please.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Melissa, there is nothing artificial about you, my friend.  Your sparkle is as lovely a warm summmer evening under the stars.  Very nicely penned!  *hugs* and peace to you!

You express how I feel very well. I sometimes feel like a precious rhinestone that isn't worth a penny.

Well this has a unique
twist to it. Well said missy,
if achingly so, this is a
diamond-quality of a write!
