she rises from frisco's bleakened bay
like an anguished boil seeped from choly skin
eruption's putrid conjure from the dark side ofman
to decay the minds and punish God's unforgiven their sins

hotel for the damned, paid in full the rent
gathered from what evil was raped from time
receipted with lonely and sung as hymns of dirge
'til devil winds would not erase the signs

when night rides by on her hollow horse
her gnashing grins no promise of tomorrow
to the starving ears then, she is the banshee laugh
that slivers the bones and slides them under skin

she rattles her chains to haunt sleep starved minds
and leaves embers under eyes to goad astray
to face the salt of lonely sprinkled in their gaze
with sulfur stings of empty sight at lightless of day

morning rides a pale horse, then
she is the granite andthe dark grooved seams
she is the voiceless sound, the cloak of cold
wet through the skin and wrapped in dreamless dreams

she pulls the memory marrow spreading it like dung
as lucifer sends his tears and heartless chest panting
he is the jealous jestor of pain he didn't create,
the solitary torment that was without his inventing

for the dead men he couldn't credit as his whim,
his tears are ice slick sliding like nose wet
down cancer rust on bars to pool as stenching dust
riding whirlwinds round the cells as rat voiced pets

and the bird man still whistles for the broken wings at dawn

I have been there in the harbor
cold mist of morning rising
the bleak entered my bones
and to this day, has not left...

good.  very, very good....

Dark~Your vivid imagery took me there..
although never have I seen it in person.
I am sure you penned it perfectly.
'Well done' is an understatement!
Enjoyed the visit, but, I wouldn't like to live there.

DS

I think there are souls left behind there in those damp creases that hold unspeakable.  Such a vivid paint with dark color and goosebumps.  I used to live with that view across the dark water.

DS - powerfully written my friend - used to live near there and took lots of people to visit - I am sure most felt they took some of that "darkness" with them when they left.  Paul

Amazing imagery.  Picture clear.  Made me feel as though I had been there.  I haven't.

I'm headed there in three weeks for vacation.
read your warning,
but I've got to see
what I've heard so much about.
your excellent poem will be fresh in memory
thanks for the tour
