Flame doth leap, Catching canvas clawing sky, Men doth leap, To sea drowning rather burn, In water Watching the ship first to die, In fire, Quenching consumption it yearns, In darkness Slipping in tears they will drown, Till stillness Swallows all in oceans sound. Gloom Via inspiration of A Burnt Ship by John Donne 1572 to 1631 ~ Out of a fired ship, which by no way ~ But drowning could be rescued from the flame, ~ Some men leap'd forth, and ever as they came ~ Near the foes' ships, did by their shot decay; ~ So all were lost, which in the ship were found, ~ They in the sea being burnt, they in the burnt ship drown'd. makes me think sometimes no matter which choice one makes, they can't win...some days, like today, I feel that way. You are always able to take and twist a poem to become your own. Nicely done M |
