The Phantom Beckons

The vapor rose,
an iridescent blue mist,
to transcend us
into the depths of the chasm
beneath the opera house.

Fragments of pain
and longing
were lifted, in song,
enhancing the power
of the sight before our eyes.

Phantom began
to enlighten us
of Christine’s need to escape
his pent up desires;
his vengeful wants.

Yet, like she,
we were drawn
into his grasp
yearning to sing
the music
of the night
that we might
caress his
and our own hearts.

The above was written 2 days following the gift of attending a performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera,” in Portland, OR, with my daughter, as her guest. It was awesome and the challenge words from Joyce Mutington, Mutington's Meadow,  were a perfect medium by which to begin to relate the joy of the experience.
these are the words of the challenge: vapor, transcend, fragment, sight, enlighten, escape.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Perhaps one of my favorite late classical pieces of all time,
the Phantom of the Opera's music is something
that will make a romanticist out of anyone...

Thank you, Virginia...
