No One Called Me Sweetheart (inspired by passing shadows) Years ago, when we first met I fell in love, with no regret. For years on end, past thirty-two yet never heard those words from you. Nicknames never, not even "hon" makes me wonder, for want of one, just that one word, that compound of would fill me up with feelings, love. Yet I was only twenty then, had been in love since first time when I saw you there, guarding all, and you had winked, and I recall the looping feelings, my heart did flips from your first kiss upon these lips. I never knew those sweetheart words and often hoped to feel them heard. Your eyes would sometimes give away, but lips of yours would never say that word combined, once made from two. Some day I'll know its meaning, true. M "Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less." |

Some men just don't know how to communicate. They just build a wall around themselves and it becomes an impenetrable barrier. I have a friend who was married to a man like this...he was just unreachable... How sad! I love your poem...you express this so very well. ![]() Lyra |

maybe it's what I deserved...false love...seems that's all I am capable of receiving. [This message has been edited by nakdthoughts (07-10-2002 02:03 PM).] |

you know, i always use pet names like sweetheart, princess, and babydoll... i never knew it was such a big deal.... don't be afraid to tell him what you want. it's all about communication right? and sometimes, we need a *little* help. :P this was a great piece of inspiration. we love ya for real, darlin. it's our struggle for identity that leaves us all unknown [This message has been edited by MidnightSon (07-10-2002 02:48 PM).] |

Sorry to hear, M. Works both ways, I find. And, if it isn't being said I think you can assume that it isn't being felt, or maybe it's being blocked. |

MidnightSon...I like pet names too, and would rather hear them then just see them in a hallmark card...it is not that it is a big deal, but that it touches you deeper... in fact I call it one of those little things that doesn't cost anything to do. thank you, "sweetie", although I have no right to call you that... ![]() M devina ..then you are lucky *s...and so is he. I would say 30 years of marriage meant we had to have communication...just I never was given a pet name...and was thinking about that when I read passing shadows poem and was inspired to write mine. Thank you. M Krawdad...don't be sorry, I had almost all good years despite no pet name..of course I have a nickname, so I guess that can replace it. And I wouldn't assume anything from a man...that's where one gets into trouble... I think that "works both way thing" is a poor excuse or comeback..just like saying to someone who asks why you don't call them..and you answer "the phone works both ways"...life isn't a tit for tat game... sometimes just one or the other saying it, makes for a special moment...and I don't believe at my age, someone should have to be told that saying sweetheart has meaning to it. Maybe some just can't express themselves in words...then hopefully the actions are enough. Then again many on here can express in words but may not be able to show it in real. thank you for your input. ![]() M |

The important part of this is that you wanted to be called sweetheart...hope your desires are fulfilled in current or future relationships...James |

Maureen Hi there Finally I can get on here to reply to your wonderful poem, you have no idea how inconvenient are mum’s computer problems. How could she kill it like that I do not know. This is an excellent write from you I really enjoyed it, the lines flow incredibly smoothly and the content is as all of your are excellent. Your use of form and structure cannot be bettered. As always Krissy ![]() ![]() ![]() And while thy willing soul transpiers |

a very deep look into your feelings - lots of ways to respond to you as many have done - but here you showed the ache of something undone for you - thanks for a great poem and for such an invitation into your feelings - Paul |

Okay...I'll be nicer to you than you were to me...(of course, my poem was really garbage)....on a scale of one to ten...this is definitely a ten.... [This message has been edited by Toerag (07-11-2002 03:49 PM).] |
