~Michigan~

Mitten shaped
The Great Lake State
water surrounds
commerce abounds

cars and pills and papermills
wheels and steel
industrial deals

winter air of crystal glow
rainbow diamonds...lake effect snow
ski boards, snow boards...common sights
landscapes...snowy drifts of white

springtime buds, late blooms emerge
their growth slowed down by winter's urge
a season we can never trust
as flowers cry in snowy dust

summer beauty, trees and sails
woods and lakes and hiking trails
big burr oaks, dunes and beaches
hidden coves and sandy reaches

autumn spirit, red and cold
redeems the thought of coming cold
pumpkin patches...apples, green
Great Lake State...some Michigan scenes
~

the first 2 pics of Michigan scenes were taken by L.Nesius
the first photo is Archrock on Mackinac Island,
the second photo was taken at Bay Fine in the North Channel...a channel which is half in Canada and half in Michigan. It is just north of Lake Huron
the final photo is one which I got from Webshots, it is of Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
I hope you enjoyed the little tour

Ah geez, Madame C...now you make me want to come back.  I certainly enjoyed my time in Battle Creek, Marshall, Kalamazoo...and you've nailed it on the head as to the seasons and their sounds and feel....it's a great state...perhaps someday, I'll come see YOU....

Karilea...I had forgotten that you lived here.
It would be nice if you still did...nice for me anyway...
but don't those pics tempt you to at least come back for a visit?
Michigan is a very beautiful state.

Thanks so much, Helen...
I'm glad you enjoyed the tour.  How long have you been in the sunny south?
I personally, like the north better....and I really love Michigan.  It isn't my home state but I've been here since 74, so I guess its become my adopted home state.

It's gorgeous country, Lyra, and it's easy to see you love it. Wonderful way with words, too. They flowed so well. I love the way you combined the pictures and words together.

Allow me to say this in all candor..
I'll NEVER be a Michigander!
I've sworn that I will never go
To any state producing snow.
But I admire that wondrous state
'Cause it's got you...that makes it GREAT!!!

This is just splendid Lyra!
I can see Michigan if I walk one block north.
*Yes...I am to the south of you, even though I am in Canada*
I lived for 10 years in Port Huron and have two American born children.
Love it there!  Beautiful state!

Thanks so much, Michael...
There are lots of chipmunks here in Michigan.
I don't think there are too many of us, living in Fla...

Thanks Nancy,
It always surprises me to know that Canada is south of us.
I have a brother-in-law who lives in NY, who calls Kalamazoo the frozen tundra.
Every time he comes to visit, its always cold here....even in the summer.
He didn't believe me, that it was in the upper 90's the other day.

Wow!  What a beautiful home you have Lyra.  Your poem was like a brochure from the Chamber of Commerce and I absolutely loved the tour.  Thank you for posting it.

Thanks so much, Sharon.  I'm glad you enjoyed the little tour of my adopted home state.  It is very beautiful here.  The top photo in that poem, was taken when we went on vacation to Mackinac Island....a lovely little Island which is located between Canada and the U.S.A.  No cars are allowed there, only horses and buggies and bikes.
Arch Rock, which is in the photo is a natural rock formation.

This was of course a favorite of mine, but I love the fact that she thought Michigan could actually look GOOD!     She had a wonderful poet's pen, and an even better sense of humor that gal!
