I am still reeling
from my assertiveness
but I did pack my bags
and set off for Myanmar,
having undertaken
a community service project

Ignorance shielded me
from the harsh
injustices of life

You were to open my eyes
Hands held, we walked around
your village, taking in
barren attap huts
and undernourished children

We spent the days
doing things a language
barrier wouldn't hinder~
You obligingly delighted me
with perfect cartwheels,
I tried to repay you
with long piggybacks

We climbed trees together
And I got cold feet
and stayed inert, watching you
climb all the way, all the while
trying to dismiss the shirt
you wore everyday
and the knowledge that
you were too poor to go to school
My heart ached at your fate
while
my mind marvelled at
how little it took
to make you happy

Dear Win Tun,
it was lovely knowing you
I only hope that
my brief intrusion
into your life
has brought you
similar precious memories

It's good to hear that language doesn't keep us from making new friends. I liked this very much!

THIS is beautiful!
Although it did leave me with a big ole lump in my throat.
I'm sure he remembers you....and smiles.

thank you all for reading and for commenting...Not a day goes by without me missing him...while understanding the meaning of "To have loved and lost than not to have loved at all", i ache nonetheless..."if onlys" cloud my mind at times--"if only we had more time together", "if only i have taken more efforts in learning Myanmaese"..

this is beautiful...

My son met his dad for the first time in Oct. It had been 9 years since he saw his dad. My son loves him very much. His dad, too, goes through the "what if"'s and "should of"'s. I just tell both of them to live for the moment and enjoy each other.
