Puppet Master

this hand, upturned in silent pleas
used to stroke your cheek and
keys to assemble the words of us
but I was smiling at the wrong face
for the wry face of fate cannot smile

a dancing wood puppet neither you or I should be
when seasonal joy should sing in hearts
there is a defending of past
that makes today unbearable

what strange wisdom which does not allow
paths to be cleared; vision to not be bleary
neither am I the man of yesterday
that would sing a dour song;
content and at peace
today he is
as he loses the taste
for eating sour fruit

all the sorrows
all the mistakes
and all the puppet strings
are to no avail
when the puppet
is finally his own

Oh Jeff, this is excellent, sweet friend, yes, just like Pinocchio it is up to us to learn from our mistakes and follow our conscience and tell what's wrong or right and then when we are truly ready we become our own master!
