Suthern had a few days off so she decided to
Head to Florida to meet with Pepper and Sy, too.
She knew, of course, by doing so and traveling down here
She'd also have the chance to meet our good ole Balladeer.

Well, she arrived and we all met - me, Pepper, Fran and Sy
And Isabel was there as well on this fourth of July.
We had a pleasant night - on Pepper's boat we took a ride
And, afterwards, when all was done she pulled me to the side.

She said,"I have to tell you. There is something you should know.
I've only known one man in life - the fellow known as Toe.
I thought that he was typical of all the other gents
But now that I have met you, I see such a difference!!!

You don't act like a silly clown. You don't act like a dunce.
We've been together three hours and you haven't farted once!
You don't make little noises in your throat when you eat food
And you don't belch and then announce the food was really good!

You haven't spilled things on yourself. I don't see any drool.
You don't spend half the night parading like some silly fool.
You don't draw faces in the mashed potatoes just for fun
And you don't butcher English every time you make a pun.

You don't scratch yourself in places that nobody wants to see
And, after having beer, you don't announce "I need to pee!"
You talked for hours without a curseword, never heard you brag.
You're nothing like that butt-scratch, belching, simpleton Toerag!!"

She kissed me lightly on the cheek and said, "I thank you, 'Deer.
There are some decent men out there. You've made that very clear.
No more will I accept a man whose manners make me gag.
I'll take the men like you and never settle for Toerag!

’Deer dearest heart this is utterly utterly priceless I love it. Of course being that you write it, it is extremely well written, witty, perfectly phrased and the presentation was excellent. Add to that it is so funny and I can’t wait to see the response, because it’s bound to be utterly utterly wonderful.

Hi there Suthern, I’m sure you all had a fabulous time, and I can’t wait till September. As for the shirt dearest ‘Deer, is that what they mean by wearing your colours with pride? It is fabulous and I love it.

Beautifully written, I love it. Bravi Bravi Bravissimi Round of applause here

After due consideration
I'll admit the adulation
Given to Deer by so many is deserved...
But for him to here suggest
That compared to Toe, he's best
Requires either wishful thinking or some nerve!
Now, of course I was elated
To learn Deer's faults were overrated
For there's certainly one way that Deer's "the man!"
He might make a few mistakes
But his heart has what it takes
To find acceptance in a beauty known as Fran.
Seeing them does this old soul good
And I wish that somehow I could
Find the overwhelming happiness they share...
Meanwhile, not to burst Deer's ego
But my heart belongs to sweet Toe...
Guess I'm a cross the poor man has to bear. *S*

Deer One, I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed the visit. *S* You and Franni, Sy and Isabel, Pepper and Brent... you're so dear to my heart. *S*

’Deer dearest heart I had to dig this out again simply because, besides I need a piccy to see who I’m meeting at the airport.

an aside to Suthern darling heart should I print the piccy off and add it to the banner? Then those deplaning will definitely think they’ve flown in with a C & W star. No, really it’s a good idea, I’ll put it to Krissy she’s in charge of banner design.

This is really an excellent poem and so darling Suthern was your reply.  I love it utterly, and ‘Deer you get extra points for the shirt.
