It is Made of Tears A house of stone, wood, ivy and wood shingles, with enormous porch filled with potted plants and wicker. The camellia bushes press, fuchsia line the steps, a walnut tree hides the sun. Down a weed-sprinkled path is the old hen house where no hen remains, only spiders, weeds and vines invade the doors and windows. Measure the room with footprints in the dust, a child’s bare feet. It measures ten footprints in every direction. Down a long hall is a room with the closet smell of mothballs absorbed by kimono high heels, and hat. The bed against the wall swallows in softness. Above the dresser naked cherubs cavort around a mirror in plump innocence. The sound of crow’s laughter comes from the pine across the street before the door opens to the smell of Listerine. Blue blanket made of satin. In the center a yellow felt bunny, tattered and frayed as if rubbed many times. Painful to hold now, its comfort gone for years. It is really made of tears. A glimpse of some sort of sadness covered now and stuffed with the comfort of satin. Inhale the essence of soft barbed wire and unlock the door to healing. _____ 2-00 because some things need to be remembered in order to be forgotton |

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Martie, this is sooooooo heartbreaking, sweet friend, I too cried reading this because imagining that soiled toy broke my heart too as if it resembled lost innocence or abuse it had to endure! (sad sigh) You are a true angel, sweet friende, I join you in thoughts of sympathy to all who face this kind of pain, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Martie I can't even imagine how you must feel some times. I think you know my heart is with you! "A glimpse of some sort of sadness covered now and stuffed with the comfort of satin. Inhale the essence of soft barbed wire and unlock the door to healing." I'm so happy you unlocked that door and you work at that.....such a wonderful poet you are! |

Martie, back for a second read, and now I see what you mean and I really feel a healing in this. It is better to remember it, and put it to rest. Nothing means more to me than faith, |

Measure the room with footprints in the dust, a child’s bare feet. Your writing is so beautifully descriptive, Martie...and I agree.... Some things do need remembering before they can be forgotten. ~ healing hugs Lyra |

Thanks so much to you all for replying with such caring. This poem is about my own childhoold and an abusive relationship with my grandfather. Some things do need to be remembered to forget, other things need to be remembered to keep the memory alive. |

Yes, some things need to be remembered...so that we can accept them as part of our life and be able to deal with it....then to put it behind us...in a place where it belongs... Thanx for this Martie... |

To pull the memories out of the closet and face them eye to eye is the best way to open a door to the healing and as you said in your lovely verse ... sometimes the ONLY way. Very impactful writing with much emotion in it. Loved the read and of course, you know I love the strength in you that shines in this piece. hugs and love to you dear one. |
