Open 6? Yep ... I've been here too long. Anyway, I always loved this poem, so thought I'd give it a second chance all these Opens later. Enjoy! Mikey (almos' done moderatin' th' Dark! yay!) Fallen robots Tubing and arms and cracked headlight eyes. Mirrors and circuitry under scorched dust. There isn't much order left to their bodies. Just piles of metal shining in the dark. Shadowwires grow from the flashlight's glare -- In the beam I catch a flatplated eye. A circle shining like a coin on the floor; Near my footprints making a path twice defined. Pieces lying everywhere without description or function. Can dead electrons find a stream to orbit within? Does energy still pulse within remaining wires? Can long-hardened oil lubricate movement again? Fallen for some unknown cause, Built by some unknown maker, Seen over to fulfill their task And then left destroyed. If they can never live again Are there digital flowers I can pick and place In due respect of their motionless state? I'd like to find a pixellated rose or binary tree. I can only imagine and hope (for me) They were destroyed in an event of importance, significance. It would be a shame to think of this warehouse crypt Not as a memorial, just a rusting test case. These smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun. |

Mike Excellent eulogy to the technology and ideas of the past. Does seem sad doesn't it? Once the top of the heap now at the bottom. Wonderful complicated ideas and designs no longer needed and just thrown aside. Good write, I love that kind of stuff! |

Well worth another showing, I think I missed it on 6 (the first open I was on - yay !) - 6 was such a great forum . Great poem anyway, Just goes to show how fast technology really is moving; the question is did you mean to make the metaphoric link between man and machine or is it just my over active imagination ... 'Tubing and arms and cracked headlight eyes.' Have we really ended our spell of usefulness in old age ? Great poem, so much to think about . I loved it - One of the best reads I've had in a while . L.of.L. Tom . I just can't believe how much of a punk you used to be. Admittedly, this is nothing like the trashy angst of PI, but dude, it takes a punk mentality fr images like that. Love you, punky-boy. Whoa, now I have Sk8ter Boi stuck in my head.... Damn Avril and her catchy tunes! "He was a punk...she did ballet. What more can I say?" I swear, I'll slap myself next time I fall in love with a succesful artist. Really. "Sooner or later, they'll never grow up." -Jim Steinman (unreleased and almost completely unheard, but hey) |

I'm glad you all liked i'. It's actually based on a dream I had (and will probably be incorporated now into a computer game my friend is working on, which is why I dusted it off here). I guess it could have Luddite tendencies, but that wasn't the intention. It sure came out well, though. I'm actually happy with an old poem! Mikey And I love you too, babygrrl. These smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun. |

It was very excellent, Mr.Squirrel... It reminds me of our basement. My husband has a small business repairing PCs and he currently has about 33 computers down there in all manner of being torn apart. He also has lots of parts... A great description, it fits perfectly. ~ hugs with acorns Lyra |
