For My Parents...a Thank You

You created me from your love
my body grew from the seeds of you
you knew me before I knew myself
from your passion, you gifted my spirit proud
with your values of trust and true

you sculpted me strong
to face pain and fear
and painted me shiny with courage
with burnished shadings of empathy
the better to shed life's tears

on my soul, you stamped a fervor
for all of life's lovely offerings
romance, children, flowers
forests at sunset, and poetry
and the scent of the rain in the early spring

and finally, with your signature
on the edges of my seeing
your gift of life
suffused with love
my parents...I thank you for being

Lyra,

This is a very beautiful tribute to your parents. Our parents go through a lot for us and not think a thing of it. As long as their children are happy, they can deal with whatever life throws them. I hope you share this beauty with your parents.

Thanks so much, Barry...I will have to tell my Mother what you said. My Father passed away in 1988, so its pretty hard to tell him, but I have a feeling that he already knows.

I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. This is one of the only ones which I wrote completely in one sitting....making only very few minor changes to it.

Lyra my darling friend Oh my word, this is utterly gorgeous, HALT! Stop right there, is it legal to have poetry this spectacular and wonderful? I think I shall have to protest this is just too perfectly divine darling girl, absolutely wonderful. The beauty and love you’ve incorporated into this poem is incredible. Is this good? I think I will stay awake all night trying to get my head back to it's normal size...

My Dad died in 88, but my Mom is still going strong...
over 50 years of smoking 3 packs a day, and all she has is mild emphysema.
