i've done poetry for a while, and i've gotten pretty good at it too. however as my curiosity continously grows, i find dozens of other stuff that im far more superior at than poetry, and im currenty into writing stories and making origami. im not however considering to abandon any of my interests because when i graduate, i want to keep learning new worlds and new things that i never thought possible, and i will do so until the day i die. because if you stop learning in my opinion, it is practically a waste of your life; your life is stale and stagnant if there is no more to learn, and i want to learn as much as i learned since preschool. if i temporarily set aside poetry, i will probably come back to a decade later or so. well my point here is, did any of you people ever have a conflict with your own interests and each time you become more motivated torwards one interest than the other? im curious because i want to see how many people here are like me in some way. for me, i dont want my life to be a daily routine; i want to learn something new each time i get up in the morning. after all, we probably wont even have an afterlife.

You've covered more ground here perhaps, than you realize. In my search for the proverbial 'bottom line', I feel it lies somewhere between feelings of inadequacy and a lack of belief in an "afterlife". Your tone seems to reflect a wish that an afterlife would factually exist and a real disappointment that it may not. This could be key for your intellectual pursuits, if it indeed is important to you.

Whether or not others are like you or you are like them doesn't indicate the desire to be unique, just the desire to belong.

I realize you didn't ask for analysis and I apologize if this sounds a bit 'couchy'.

Continuing to learn through one's life is the path to wisdom. Not just academics, but becoming more human,in touch with yourself and aiding others in every way you can.

I wish you luck on your journey.

If you keep your mind open you will automatically learn as you grow older. It is a given. If not you would forever be in the baby stage. Life will send up on roads you did not even think of and you will learn and the more you learn the more you will realize that you know very little. One theory is to be excellent at one thing and it will take you far and there will be people who seek you out. But that does not appeal to me.I want to know as much as my mind will take in and I think you are leaning in that direction. Just listen and learn and keep your mind open to people and books and what ever it takes. Best to you, Jo

Being caught in the process of becoming, of acquisition, and realizing its strife and pain, the desire to get out of it gives birth to the conflict of duality. Gain always engenders fear, and fear gives birth to the conflict of opposites - the overcoming of what is and transforming it into that which is desired. Does not an opposite contain the germ of its own opposite? Is virtue the opposite of vice? If it is, then it ceases to be virtue. If virtue is the opposite of vice, then virtue is the outcome of vice. Beauty is not the denial of the ugly. Virtue has no opposite. Greed can never become nongreed, any more than ignorance can become enlightenment. If enlightenment is the opposite of ignorance, then it is no longer enlightenment. Greed is still greed when it tries to become nongreed, for the becoming itself is greed. The conflict of the opposites is not the conflict of dissimilars, but of changing and opposing desires. Conflict exists only when what is is not understood. If we can understand what is, then there is no conflict of its opposite. What is can be understood only through choiceless awareness in which there is neither condemnation, justification, nor identification.
