So here ya go, take a good look and hopefully you'll find inspiration therein: * * * * * * My rules remain pretty much the same--Choose a form if you're more comfortable with that, and post in any appropriate forum. The only requirement is that the poem does indeed give him a name. We have a little bit of background, but not much story, so narratives are welcomed. This is (we were told) a Kenyan Sand Boa. And he's hungry. Snapped at me, he did. Maybe I'll call him "Lunch" if he keeps that up. My kids will be doing the voting. Oh. There ain't no prize. I'm saving up to buy him a mouse for dinner. |

Unless your snake has just been born It’ll have a name already It’s mum and dad would have had a stab At a handle (maybe Eddie) But if you don’t know the parents Or Kenyan Boanese I guess you can call your little snake Exactly what you please You know I like thorough research though So I Googled yet again And I was quite amazed to find Your snake has got a name “The Sand Boa from Kenya Can be kept with little fuss They are orange with brown blotches Name - Eryx colubrinus “ Has to be Eric Karen and if it doesn’t move much you could add Idle, although technically that’s the name for a Python. |

Too funny! Although I promised everybody they'd get a vote. Although your poem does raise a question for me, since Eryx sounds like the possessive Eric's... Is some guy out there missing his colubrinus? grin Thanks Grinchie--I'm gonna keep "Eric" under consideration. |

This is gonna be FUN. I just told my daughter that next Saturday I'd make a list and we will have the vote then. (We had to do SOMETHING to amuse us--he's a very uneventful pet.) Um, he burrows, so it pretty much looks like an empty tank. Which is actually more horrifying to my family than the above picture--considering how many times I've lost snakes in the house! |

I call it RHYMER for the well formed dot. One can use it to show the iambic beat and is it in any sense related to feet? If anyone talks about formed poem later, then your little cute snake will get mentioned.(yuks, i hate snake myself). and I still want to write a snaky Sonnet. It Has to be a poetic one since this is a poetic site. |

Naming a Snake What would you name a snake, I personally would ask him his own name to take, Whether it be Bob, Frank, or Jake. But if it be you that he should ask, Giving you the elementary task, Don't turn yourself to the flask, For his sake, I would name him Snake. |

I'm soooooooooo glad you did this...that way I could call him "Snake Plitkin"! But my daughter likes Humphrey Boagart, and tsk...you know I love you Grinch, but whenever I say Eric I get a raised eyebrow and the echo: "Eric?" (I think it's cute though.) thanks for the input Hellx! Love you all ...um, bunches! |
