Most of us are so readily appreciative of the fine qualities that we see in others, yet we often overlook these same qualities in ourselves. Even the most vile and negative individuals have a spark (albeit teensy weensy in some) of innate goodness and beauty. If we can recognize and appreciate these qualities in ourselves, perhaps they will blossom and grow as we learn to appreciate ourselves and become our own friend. Then we are never really alone! Looking at our positive qualities and learning to love ourselves as we do others, enriches our lives and helps us to grow spiritually. Some may feel that this is narcissistic and shy away from looking within and appreciating what they see, but I feel that it is a very important step in learning more about ourselves and who we really are. ~*~ Inner peace prevails As you learn to love yourself And be your own friend ~*~ To meet this challenge, one needs to be brave--for this is not an easy thing to do. We are only too quick to judge and to find fault with ourselves, so to really look within and write about our positive qualities, is an extremely difficult exercise. Many may fear what others may think, "Who do they think they are!"---but that is not what is important. What is important is, "Who do YOU think you are!" The more we genuinely love, respect, and care for ourselves, the more others will do likewise. You could write about your loving qualities and how you help and care for others, how you express your creative talents, what you're doing to make the world a better place--from helping the less fortunate to doing what you can to preserve our planet--even if it is only recycling and car pooling--it all adds up!---what have you achieved?---take an honest look at all the good that you do in this world and all the goodness that is within you!--and what you are doing, in your own special way, to make this world a better place For those who would feel more comfortable, to project their own qualities on to someone else, fictitious or otherwise, and write about "them"--please feel free. Even if no one rises to this challenge, it is my hope that there may be some readers who will look within and gain more of an appreciation of who they truly are. You could post your poetic reply in Open Forum and add that it is "EA's Be Your Own Friend Challenge" ~ Sending love to the brave of heart Earth Angel [This message has been edited by Earth Angel (12-12-2002 07:30 PM).] |

*raised eyebrow* Hmm... I'll think about it. Give me a few days. I just played the fault game with one of my friends last night... I need recuperating time. Actually, it was great fun, and rather therapeutic. heh. I'll try... no promises. Kielo I know only one thing, and that thing is that I know nothing. |

Kielo, I think that it is wonderful that you are even contemplating writing a positive "expose" on yourself. It takes someone who is comfortable in their own skin to write this for everyone to see--someone who knows who they are and what they represent. I think this would be such a wonderful way for people to share more of themselves with others. ~ Sending you lots of encouraging hugs EA |

I have to admit the subject line of this thread made me laugh out loud. I just might try it though... 'cause I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit -- people like me. [This message has been edited by Local Parasite (12-14-2002 01:20 PM).] |

Local Parasite ~ Well, to be honest with you, with a charming reply like that one, you can add me to the list of people who like you! I'd love to read what you would have to write about yourself! ~ Here's to you! Earth Angel |

I might actually attempt this one "it was cute, it was like he was shy and didn't want to make it too obvious" |

Skyfire ~ You go girl! When I came up with this premise for a challenge, I wondered if there would be any Pipsters who would venture forth to accept it. I'm pleased that so far there are three of you contemplating writing about your positive aspects. This is a very good thing! ~ Sending you lots of love and light! Earth Angel |

Linda, I might just try this, too...just because I really do like me. If that sounds conceited, so be it. Because, as I've told many people before, if we don't like (love) ourselves, how can we expect anyone else to like (love) us?!? ~Ethel~ |

Yay!!! Oh Ethel, I know you can do it too! (smiles) And Linda, thank you so much for your beautiful compliment, it brought tears to my eyes reading it as you are gentle and loving and compassionate too! Hey Linda, I'm not sure if you have noticed yet, but I also posted a challenge here, yay, and I would love for you to try it! It is to write either a tribute to the artist which deeply influences you and your love, or write a love poem and mention the artist or song name within (it can be a whole bunch of artists). It's also OK if it is silent music or orchestral. I wrote my own response in Open #23 titled Shakira. You can read it here: /pip/Forum74/HTML/003515.html The poem can be written in any form, any length! Marti wrote a gorgeous senryu for Enya recently which is also an example of this challenge, yay! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." Shakira [This message has been edited by Mistletoe Angel (12-16-2002 01:55 PM).] |

Noah ~ I just read your poem on Shakira! Wow! If I do rise to your challenge, mine may not be of the same caliber of yours! But, what the hay! Nothing ventured, nothing gained! ~ May you always have a song in your heart Linda [This message has been edited by Earth Angel (12-16-2002 04:13 PM).] |

(smiles) Awwwwww, Linda, don't say that, every kind of music (except maybe that that is racist, of course, LOL) has a speical meaning and quality to it, just think of your absolute favorites, and write away as music is the universal language and you have it in your golden heart! All I did was think of Shakira and wrote beginning to end non-stop, with the repeating of the chorus of course! Write in any form you want as this is an open challenge! Yay!!! (smiles) Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Toe, this would be such a wonderful exercise for you to do. At times I believe you are too hard on yourself. You always see the good in others--and that is a good thing! but there is a wealth of goodness in you as well! Even though you choose not to do this challenge, at least look within yourself and see that wonderful person that you truly are! ~ Sending you lots of light, love, and a big mirror Linda |

Hmmm... needs a title: I am in love with my shelf - I lean on it. It's light but well-made, Levelly-laid, Lovingly weighted. I anticipated this moment. Sshe left me. So I am in love with my shelf And I'm leaning on it, Head in hands. |

ccvulture ~ Sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations in the love department; however, you certainly do appear to have the right attitude--and a sense of humor to boot! I'm glad that you are leaning on your "shelf" and are not on it! By the way, I think your "shelf" is very special and will get you far in life! Warm hugs, Earth Angel |
