In our poems we look deep within our selves often revealing personal emotions and details. Our poems can reveal alot about ourselves... the challenge is to write/post a poem which you think sums you up best as a person, a poem that reveals your over all out look on life and to write a small paragraph explaining why you selected the poem. The poems can either be posted as a thread to this message or in Pub Corner, mark the replies "revealing words challenge.....(poem title.)" I will start the ball rolling, I am going to post the poem here as it has already been around both open and Pub Corner. ===================================== This poem was written after watching the film "Lust for Life" about the life of Van Gogh. I think this poem gives a good example of my state of mind. The first verse is very visual focusing on colours and settings which act as metaphors. One of my main interests is art hence the heavy imagery in most of my poems. In the first paragraph there is the transition from the sleeping world into the waking world, (I am a big daydreamer so I never fully put my dreams to rest). Also it explores my relationship with my environment and life. The second paragraph deals mainly with my tranquillity and spirit charged with positive energy in the afternoon. The third paragraph deals with evening time and my fears. My sense of restlessness that does not seem to have any focus. My wish for stillness and peace. The last few lines refer to allowing my energies to flow freely and celebrate life. I think this poem sums up my personality, which is at once bright and cheerful yet dark and intense, the dance and chaos between the two. My lust for life yet fears of living. =========================================== Dusk to Dawn The yellow hue of golden sun rising from eastern tides breaks the waves of the icy winter canals, shifting the seas and stirring my head from sleepless dreams. My eyes shut in the black of night, blink cautiously venturing to filter dawn's brilliant light. The wind chimes on light breeze dance in gaiety, eagerly kissing the white exposures of early morning. Blue shades of shadow and twilight still yearn for their moment, they hang as phantoms cowering from the blazing rays of Solaris. Fold the blanket bury the bed and commit myself to day. Bathe in transparencies, and drown the tiredness in my bathroom sink. It is like rebirth, the shedding of dead skin under the tsunami of tap water. My razor hacks against my skin sculpting a fresh face. The ritual ended and my daylight persona in place I have the freedom to celebrate the mundane. My palm placed against the window fingers parted to shift light into prism beams. The droplets of colour process facilely on my retina developing in Kodak clarity. it's these simple pleasures that let me live. I bow my head, as noon fades further into recession. Evening is dead time, each hour becomes a storm of raven insanity. The interior is bleached in twilight, fluorescent blue warms my corner where I sit naked with my phobias. It flashes irrelevant pictures on its surfaces, commercial happiness and life unattainable. They call this entertainment. Fictionalised reality soaks my mind, with flat lifeless impressionists. I turn from the madness, face the sky, allow imagination to drift. Breaking through a blood sky, golden twilight merges in an amber wash acrylic tones and spiralling textures knitted in the fabric of everything, contrasts collide, waging an intense imploding love upon a canvas of pantheism. "To the centre of the city where all roads meet, waiting for you,To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank, searching for you," Joy divison |

Brian, firstly my apologises for being so rude for not replying to your mail...school has been very hectic for me and im afraid i wont have time to write as often as i will want to...im sorry that i wont be able to co-write a poem with you.... to the poem, im surprised this post has only 1 reply so far...perhaps we all prefer not to face our true selves...letting them languish in the background...well, i thought this poem was exceptionally written...i like the self-assured persona this poem attaches to the poet....i like the line "i have the freedom to celebrate the mundane" cos that suggests a person who is contented with what life has to offer and thats the kind of person i am trying to be...this line about "sit naked with my phobias" hits BINGO for me for this is often how i feel and you have expressed this difficult feeling so well.... i think this deserves a repost ![]() ![]() |

this is a poem that I recently submited to the webpage it alos tells a lot about me now and my life so far. Trust Trust a concept, I used to give away, Almost too freely, Without seeing pitfalls, And now the one, That hardly leaves me, Trust I hoard to myself, Like rich men with money, Hardly letting people see, The real me, Intead of someone else, That trust locked, By someone elses mistake, And my mistake, To allow myself, To be cut off, From everyone else. We are all poets, its just some people dont know it yet. |
