Mr. Baxter

With exalted noble dignity
he wore his grey tweed suit
with it's modern style and perfect fit
on his feet, were tall black boots

his big bright green eyes
glowed in nightime's dark
reflecting his keen intelligence
loving, but streetsmart

he loved to sit at the table
and eat his favorite dish
but his family always put him down
on the floor with his tuna fish

Mr. B. was trim and agile
always physically fit
he had no need to visit the gym
by the window, he loved to sit

where he watched the wildlife in the woods
the chipmunks and the fox
but excitement would get the best of him
and he'd spray outside his litter box

Mr. Baxter, we remember you
a tweed aristocrat
a furry little person
who looked just like a cat

We both love our cats!!!

I can watch my two and think to myself sometimes, "oh to be a cat"
They are soooo adorable and innocent
And You and I know that they don't think of themselves as Cats... they see us and somehow they believe they are the same.

"My mother says that Dogs are Man's best friend but Cats have staff.... think about that the next time you have to clean out the litterbox or towel up a furball" She was of course, right.

I adored your Poem..... May Mr. Baxter live on in our memories...

Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow.
But above all... be kind to yourself today.

Lyra~ This was so cute!  I tell you my cat looks exactly like that, she even wears the same black eyeliner to enhance her beautiful green eyes.  She paws around in her white furry slippers as opposed to black boots....It's a girl thing I guess.
I think Mr. B and she would make quite the couple!!!

I has a cat that looked a lot like this one, but my Gussy was a lady, and she was part Persian (sp?) she had loooong white hair that came out of her ears and almost touched at the back of her head. When she passed away, I swore never another cat. She lived about 15 years...I miss her.

the point to all that rambling LOL was that I really enjoyed this

(giggles in delight) Awwwwwww, this is soooooooo cute, I love kittys so so so much, they are soooo adorable just to look at and chase their balls of yarn! (kiss on cheek) I felt like a little boy reading this remembering my gray kitty Suky and my tabby Holly, I will never forget them both! We all love you so much, sweet friend, this brought a huge smile to my face! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Lyra....you never cease to amaze me with the
life of your poetry...though you may be
suffering at times,  and in less than a most
stellar mood.....you brighten our day so
very much...and I am grateful for that!

Thanks so much for your reply, Sherry...
I have not had another cat since, Mr. B., except for the cat that belonged to my older son, and moved into our house, when Eric moved back home for a while...
but that was a nasty cat....I think he LIVED to knock over all of my plants.
He once came over to me while I was innocently reading the newspaper, and took a big bite out of my leg...
Cats are all so unique.  Mr. B was a sweet one, but apparantly they are not all so sweet. But you are right...they do think of themselves as people...and LOL as your mom says "cats have staff"

They probably would make a wonderful pair...if, Mr. B were still here...
It sounds like you have a beautiful cat.

Thanks Sue,
I will never have another cat either.
We ended up having to give him away because his spraying was out of control...
but I refused to give him to the animal shelter because I knew that they would just put him to sleep if no one adopted him, so I searched and searched and finally found a family who was looking for a mature cat and didn't care about the spraying...
and luckily, my first husband knew someone at work who fit the description.
They had Mr. B. until he went to kitty heaven last year.
~lots of hugs~

Writing the poems and posting them here, is also very therapeutic for me.
Unfortunately, my treatments are taking up a lot of time right now, but in a few weeks, perhaps I will be a bit freer.
