Pain
   brandished sword-like
is touched to crystal portals
arcing a tone high and long

a prelude to misery.

Light
   hits the blade, so bright
as to blind and sicken

Temples cringe in anticipation
of the slice

  Foundation tightens
awaiting the first blow
Darkness is begged
Silence so revered
   any price asked is
gladly paid.

Avoiding rain is all important
  it crumbles the walls
still, it drips
with fairy-like fragility
in spite of the closed windows

The gates solidify and groan
  crushing the hinges inward
until the pickets
of the fence will surely
   crack

    A dull edge gnaws
over and over
in horrid agony while
hours crawl by, leeching
into days until finally
  the small
blue and yellow boats
arrive in the moat
  to battle
  then kill
the invisible wielder
of the gashed and battered
blade

a flag is raised
via breaths of relief
free from

Pain.

...and her crown was formed by the ice in her eyes

Interesting extended metaphor...the relief from pain is sometimes so subtle you don't notice it's gone..but then there is the pain that, once it leaves, you can feel the relief settling around you like a cloak...

I could feel that relief through this..

well done hon

Thank you, your Highness

This is my interpretation of the migraine headaches that sometimes slap me sideways for 3 or 4 days. I suppose I finally get enough of those small blue and yellow boats to float down my throat until they take effect

Truly, they are horrible headaches. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, if I had any enemies.

Huggles to you Miss K.!!
