The only picture
I have of you
lays creased beside my bed.
             It's of a happy place
and relates to me, (oak trees, where first kiss kissed.
                                Somehow Maryland
      touches once again through
these folds.   ) me on my bed, you.
I think of childhood again,
      daffodil smiles in our fields;
even the dandelions were pretty.

Times were happy then.

Then,
Our dog Wolfgang died one summer.
I cried over him, too.
Mother told me a picture

             is worth a thousand words.
I can't seem to find any because
my tears only fall in Maryland,
past the marble monuments in D.C.

Maybe I'll find you again
if I try to think hard enough
about past times.

One thing I love most about poetry
is the allowance one can give to him/herself
to dive right into a memory, a place, an object...anything tangible
or otherwise, no holds barred.
You are a fine example of a poet....

"The only picture
                  I have of you
lays creased beside my bed." This is a perfect opening, I really enjoyed this piece, and look forward to reading more of you!
