Rounding Cape Horn

Barefoot rain upon the roof;
a ceiling, low, sloped just enough
to make thought stoop
into the book
and help me sense a ship's environment;
a reading lamp of brass and type
reminiscent of that which made lantern light
dance below deck; purple port in a decanter;
upon the wall, a round barometer
stuck, tonight, upon the CHANGE
as if to torment middle age; wind,
not soft like sales exuding sex
from between the covers of yacht brochures,
but thumping loud
like swells banging aginst a hull
in protest.

I feel I know the slipping
drift of this sail into unchartered
waters...

Excellent, Robert, most excellent...

Robert
I love the atmosphere you put into your poems. This is deep and familiar to my own soul. These excursions into the depth of your imagination are wonderful!
He he, yes, a long way from the sales of sex in a travel brochure.

Bob, I thought it most interesting that you chose the most difficult passage on the 7 seas.  Barometer stuck on change ... thought provoking, indeed
As usual, I love it!

Subtle, moving...a poem of curious grace.

Thank you for it...got to rush off and recommend it to a ship-loving friend of mind...

Bob

I like what Severn said..."curious grace"..seems so appropriate.  You mixed some rhyme in, that made me smile.  Much enjoyed this!

Bob~

"Watch your head," you said...
As I stepped aboard your yacht.
I took care
Not to hurt my head...
It was my heart
I forgot to watch.
