Some said the lily was not-- that it was a robust tree-- an oak-- a pine, perhaps-- or-- an upward ebony. Certainly not the lily-- which blooms in white- colors varied, a weak poor flower born in June, not on March’s ide one buried. For none would dare to attack-- said the plotters in ‘disgust’-- a precious lily pure and frail, to right their wrong-- tame their gust. ‘He was an oak, tall and high-- and sought a seat upon the crowd, so we cut him down, making room, none sees the sun with one so proud.’ An august seed upon the wind, ‘twas he who saw their conceits-- he who knew his month-- his time, --and brought about their defeats. An offspring of the lily-- some say he planted Rome anew, --lilies grow in soon July, and gave a flower to accrue. |

Such were the times of history on a fateful day in March.... Very well written, loved the use of metaphors throughout the poem... |
