Penciled in, and sang in mixed rhyme We were the local band making a dime Past is flame eternal, a haunted song a power chord lingering deep and long. Somewhere in a buried past, it lives again All five of us, blood warriors of kin Half a gig's money spent on threads and half again on sauce for the head. Never rich, but never poorer There was fame, but so much more Outside of the city, a virtual unknown but inside, we were owners of the Throne. A lead-singer and frontman of the band with hair as long as my parents could stand voice with timber of heartful Jim Morrison With Burton Cumming's range, the teaching was done. In a stone-front Masonic Lodge in Kokomo each mason dancing wrong on the floor Wanting Neil Diamond, but getting Grand Funk Hard rock left packed in the roadie's trunk. A night of soft ballads and still won their hearts If you can't play loud, then by God, just play smart! The biggest gig was on all Hallow's eve A night retold later but still hard to believe. There was Foghat and the Johnny Winter Band REO Speedwagon with white Strat's in their hand Alongside them, playing first on that stage Was our band, proud to be called: Blue Sage Wore snow white jeans like a coat of pearled paint Hoping some star-eyed blond would politely faint 5 rock and roll desperado's with a singular throat In one shining moment, floats on one glory note, scratched out a legacy, now immortal in minds We weren't prophetic or ahead of our time Happy enough for some adulation as a wage Was our band, proud just to be called: Blue Sage [This message has been edited by ShadowRider (06-04-2002 09:25 PM).] |

Hi MS. Great Great memories. This poem was LOOOONG overdue as a tribute to some great Glory Days. We weren't half bad, as i remember. *smile* Yeah, and if you can believe it, REO was 2nd billing to US when they first started from Champaign Illinois playing these little theatres where they showed movies during the week. The Rivoli, The Emerson...sigh When we did the Halloween concert they were nationally known as they prospered, and we wilted. c'est la vie, huh? Thankx for the combined smiles on this. JkF |

Heck, Noah, a part of 4 or 5 bands, 3 that stayed around for more than a year. The lead bassist in the band after Blue Sage, the Stoned Toad, is still a studio producer, and the lead guitarist is a comedian for Second City in Chicago. The drummer i just found out is back in town joining a new band and recording some studio time. I left rock n roll for rock n roll as a DJ.....cool huh? but ahem.. i didn't quit my day job......grin JkF |

WOW!! You opened for REO Speedwagon!! Jeff, being in a show biz family I love this! Knowing the thrill of performing.. heart pounding just before you walk onstage. Only with me it wasn't ever music, but magic. lol. Youngest son sings and play guitar and is now starting to know the thrill of a 'paying gig'! Gawd I love this...so well done! ~Hugs~ ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

Jeff darling boy I’m completely awed by this delight. I just knew YOU had to be a ROCK STAR, it fits you so well darling boy. Ahhhhh I swear I can hear you playing now, singing the Blues, playing the audience like a fisherman plays the fish, then coaxing the very best from your group and ending each set to thunderous applause. Oh how you write, and how much I love it when you do so. Phrases as elegant as only you know how to present them flow like a clear stream of liquid light, words placed with the delicacy of a painter of miniatures. This is utterly utterly divine. Purely magical darling boy, utter bliss and I love it utterly utterly. This is why I seek out your writing you are just exquisitely fine, your writing is quality. Love and warm stuff As always Mushy Breathe through the heat of our desire |

Jeff Makes me wonder how many stories are locked within these blue walls. Loved this look at you and the way you presented it, still held the vim that I know must have been almost heaven. Thanks for sharing this! |

Maaaaaaaaashhhhaaaa...i ain't no Rock Star, No How! Def a slice of life excerpt. Hope i didn't bore y'all too much with it, but it was a gas! Thankx, Y'all! jeff [This message has been edited by ShadowRider (06-04-2002 09:36 PM).] |

SunShine-On-My-Shoulder: no no, thank YOU all for indulging me in this memory escapade. The thing is: whenever i hear those old band songs (the cover songs) played on the radio, it brings back Mega-reflections back when the mirror didn't contain the silvery corners.....if you know what i mean.....*smile* and thank you! Hi Martie! Great to see you....and apologies for the brief time here. Busy doesn't even begin to scratch the surface on the past few weeks. You make me recall something i once heard that EVERYONE has a great story in them and its a total blast to get them to tell it. You will have to share yours with me, someday, if you would....nudge nudge..... Thankx Y'all, and always take care, Jeff |

May I have your autograph please, Jeff? I never knew you were famous. Thank you for sharing this bit of your history with us. My brother in law (the one in the picture and the poem, I posted yesterday ), went to high school with Steve Tyler from Aerosmith... I wonder if Steve Tyler would ever go to a high school reunion....would you...famous Jeff? ~ musical hugs for a musician Lyra |
