Cat's Cradle

I close my eyes and see them sitting
quietly before the hearth; wife and daughter
face to face, their hands, as though in prayer, upright
receiving, each in turn, one from the other,
string.
In this they've found a way of rigging to themselves
a man of war.
And yet, a frigate stayed beside a wharf
cannot hearten like the strain,
the sudden tensing of the crew
as up and up elation climbs
to loose the topsails; and thunderous sound
when canvas bosoms on the wind
and bows slam home
beyond the horizon.

Bob

Some ties bind to hearth and some to sea...both are from the heart, it seems.

How this sweeps emotion, Robert,
how well the thought of mother, child,
playing a simple Cat's Cradle,
while it binds the heart of mother
to father...

Excellence in poetry....

Bob, I love how you take every day life, weave in a little nautical simile and metaphor, and write such pretty word pictures of us.
You are SO good!

I have to agree with this rest of the pack Bob........You take simple life pictures and make them alive with such quaint metaphorical finesse.
