Tender Whispers

We like it too much
this littlest game we play
when I whisper,
and you lean forward,
pretending you
cannot hear me…

you draw in close, closer
taking up my space
with yours

when I whisper

then you begin the play, too,
whispering back

little nothings,
and I whisper “what?”
as little nothings
tease the air

so we take turns, warming
the inside of our ears
with tender mercies

for you like what whispers
do to my lips,
my eyes
my fingers

as they reach up to touch
your lips, to feel this sweet
whisper breath of you.

Then, when you are alone,
you take your own fingers
and put them to your
lips,

just to feel me again…
