I am a child of the Cherokee Nation
My eyes are blue, my hair is brown
although my skin is not their color
in Cherokee my heritage is found.

I think it's cool to be one of them
if only in some small part
their blood runs through my veins
and I hold them close in heart.

I hear the ancient legends
I watch the eagles fly
I see the spirit of the wolf
in the night of Lunas sky.

You will find a lot to read here, of those who talk of the Native Indian heritage...Welcome to Passions!  Please, check your E-mail for a Special Greeting...

                To The Family!

What a lovely entrance poem, and like Sunshine said there are many here that write so beautifully of the Cherokee, and you may enjoy reading some of there work as well, once you get to know them all.  Nice to meet you and I will be watching for more of your lovely work.

There is nothing means more to me than
my faith, my family and my friends.

Ethome, boy would I like to take this to discussion, as I have a lot I would like to expound on regarding for our First Nations Peoples in Canada as well.  There is so much injustice and you are right, it is still going on (in B.C., the fight for the land reclamations alone are horrifying.)  I am in total sympathy with the people of the First Nations, and of those Native Americans in the U.S. as well.  Oh dear...see what a poem can start Cherokee Child?  Isn't poetry wonderful?

There is nothing means more to me than
my faith, my family and my friends.

BRAVO!!! Yes, yes, oh Cherokee Child, this is wonderful, I too have a great fascination with their culture, for I too am partial Cherokee blood, about half of me is Cherokee and half is Irish! (smiles) This is wonderful, sweet friend, I too have a deep respect for the First Nations and hope they can continue what they can to preserve the respect and dignity of the Native Americans, this is such a wonderful and hopeful debut, I LOVE IT!!! Welcome to Passions, sweet Cherokee Child, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! (big hugggssssss) I can't wait to read more of your lovely words, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Welcome, and may you continue to cherish your heritage, while accepting the heritages of all others more graciously than some accepted yours in history. We are all shades and hues of Earth's biggest rainbow, the family of man.
I look forward to reading more.

Cherokee Child...I love the history, the spirituality of Native Americans.  In fact, I am now in the process of putting together Native American and nature poems.  So...I went right to your poem. I loved it!!!! So much said in so few words.  ***Ivy Rose
