Memorial Day The old man in the uniform Stood at attention in the street Saluting stiffly to the flag Marching in place to the drummers beat Children giggled at the clowns Teenage boys ogled pom pom girls Men in muscle shirts drank beer Next to the ladies with party curls As the parade drew to a close Laughter filled the small town air Impatient for their picnic dinner The watchers seemed not to care The four men marched stiffly The last group to be seen One bearing an American flag Wearing his camouflage green Proudly they marched in step As proudly as they had served The crowd, weary of the parade Not showing respect these Vets deserved Suddenly the old man stepped out And joined the soldiers proud Trying hard to keep up the march Saluting to the crowd And then another man stepped out Tears streaming from his eyes And joined the motley crew of five As the crowd dwindled now in size One by one Veterans stepped forward To march behind Old Glory Each face showing pride and pain Each held a different story The band stopped at the end of the street And it was silent but for the sound Of twenty men marching together Forty feet upon the ground What made these former soldiers Generations apart in age Stand up and bear the flag they love When heroes were not the rage It takes a special man to promise Allegiance, to protect and serve Today, we salute those fallen men Give them the respect they deserve. |

...and it takes a special person to say it so beautifully. Very fitting, very touching - this is the one I'm going to send to 'my' Vets today. Thank you much, Sharon. |

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Sharon, this is so very touching, sweet friend, it breaks my heart to see many forgetting the meaning of this holiday when they attend parades and I wish we could all sympathize with these heroes and reach out to them more! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is a fabulous dedication, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Sharon, I am speechless, my thoughts are all blubbery and ... well... thank you for writing such a priceless treasure. I remember once, about two years ago... telling my father thank you for all he and his generation did for us... You should have seen his eyes... That was probably the greatest gift I could have ever given to him.... |
