I am Argus

It has been very long
since any have traveled this way.
Longtemps, some would say,
and longer still those that chose to.

They would say
le petite mal chose for me.
Though not quite like that.
And I would agree
how they see it that way.

Yet no so-called search for identity
steered me here.
No holding out
the thing they will not see.
Were I to point to it
there would be a wide plane,
one line,
and remarkably little else.

I will tell you what it was:
an electric spark of sudden darkness.
If there were only empty things,
one tree, one shout,
at that time,
which I very much doubt,
I know this.

And in that moment of blindness,
say at five or six,
I don't know, never will,

but in that dark, that time,
was the dead certainty.

Have you ever heard the term
tabula rasa?
Others can explain better than I.

I prefer vitreous silica.
Yes.
One long climb
into a chromatic pit.
The age of constellations is over.
The sky is filled with lexicons,
and whoever the originals were,
inspirations of myth,
are so renamed.

One may blink at the gear all one wants,
this sky of circling words,
declaim the bleak,
climb, fall, add madness a thousand ways,
the plane and line is all that's seen.

What's amazing to me
is that anyone would think it poetry.
There was no choice between two.
I did not choose.
No.
One finds the eyes as one goes.

But you will not enter until you are ready,
as much as you'd like to think so.
Sanity here is consumed by the magnitude.

I have assembled me.
You will do the same to you.

Call me Argus.

Well I was hoping you'd give it a shot. This just totally piqued my curiousity...I understand if you prefer not to explain, but do you happen to have any references that would be helpful to read. I love the mythology of Argus, and I'm trying to make connections here...this IS a fascinating bit of work here...especially considering that I have always said that "I am IO."

Thanks for the think!

I am lost within your words, but I think I know where I am going.

this one hits right there... i like it - "sanity here is consumned by the magnitude..." really sets it out and apart... for another name drop (thanks K) - this put me in mind of Zelazny... prosetic.

peace,

Christopher

Severn -- Pound's good; I'll take that.  Thank you.

ethome -- thank you.  Of course, you know, he's crazy -- Argus.

serenity --tabula rasa means literally a blank slate.  There is some theory of psychology that uses it.  Fortunately, I'm just a poet.  Since you know the story of Io, then you know Argus must keep an eye on you.

Seymour -- thank you.  I'm always glad to hear just that it was enjoyed.  Thank you again.

ecrivan -- thank you.  No petite mal thing for me, just something I remember.  Argus.

Martie -- just don't wander around.  Ha, ha.

Christopher -- Zelazny.  I haven't heard that name in 30 years.  Home is the Hangman.  Foundation.  Childhood's End.  Clark, Martin, Ellison, Asimov.  Some of them are still around.
