Walking Through Storms (for Larry) |

When I was young I sang in a choir, and I sang in a group called The Three Bells. (Yes, we were Ding, Dong, and Dangit! you missed that note again!) I also sang in the shower, while hanging from the olive trees, and sometimes, even on my knees. But I never sang in storms, for they frightened me, until I was given a special song to sing at a fundraising activity. I don't even remember all the lines. Perhaps you do. Perhaps you'll sing along with me? "When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark." Of course, that is only part of the song. But it stayed with me all these years, and each time I get caught in a thunderous lifestorm, and can't find my way through the darkness, I sing that to myself, quietly. And I find I can keep walking, without fear. Oh, that storm is still there, it never really goes away. But the power of those words somehow protects me, lifts me up onto Love's rainbow. I am singing them for you today. Not so quietly this time, for I want you to hear them. The following is a link to the origianl lyrics, and info about the song "You'll Never Walk Alone," Rogers & Hammserstein, 1945 "Carousel" http://www.boscarol.com/nina/html/where/youllneverwalkal.html [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (05-22-2002 01:28 PM).] |

But I never sang in storms, for they frightened me, until I was given a special song to sing Maybe we could all sing it together...for strength. Hope you're listening, Larry. |

Kacy...I wasn't going to reply to this because its so late, but when I read it, I just had to.... I sing that same song to myself all the time, and I also can't remember more than those first couple of lines... On behalf of all of us who need to hear it...I thank you grandly.... ~stormy hugs of courage Lyra |

Kacy, I once read a Chicken Soup story that goes something like this: there was this lonely old woman who lived in a block of apartments and didn't have many friends. She loved singing but was rejected by the church choir because she sang badly One night, she walked through the corridors alone and heard some noise. She felt frightened and sang the song in your poem to give her courage The next morning, she woke up and found a note under her doorstep, thanking her for her song. It went something like: thank you, i was about to commit suicide last night but you singing that song saved me. i'm going to pick myself up, go to the next town and get myself a job This Chicken Soup story has stayed with me all these years. I'm sure this poem will stay with Larry too HUGS [This message has been edited by faterider (05-22-2002 01:03 PM).] |

Kaile, your reply made my eyes water. Thank you for telling that story. Somehow, I never got around to reading Chicken Soup. Maybe it's time. And maybe I will just sing a little louder next time. |

Kacy, this is beautiful, as is the song. It happens to be one of my favourites too.. and Carousel one of my favourite musicals. I know the words...perhaps if we all start at the same time... everyone in pain will hear us. All it takes is one voice... ~Hugs sweet poetess~ [This message has been edited by Enchantress (05-23-2002 10:35 PM).] |

Kacy, That's a chorus I'd join anytime but more than ever, now. Thank you. |

"Oh, that storm is still there, it never really goes away. But the power of those words somehow protects me, lifts me up onto Love's rainbow" (BIG HUGGGGSSSSSSSS) God Bless You, sweet friend, as the carousel of life continues to turn, these words will always touch Larry's heart deeply, as we all reach out to him with our love and comfort! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, now I'm flooding in tears again! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Thanks, dear faterider. And if Nancy will now lead us all in this song, Larry, your voice will echo throughout the skies, and your Ginger will hear. [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (05-24-2002 12:28 AM).] |

Singing is sure good for the soul anytime, and sometimes it feels good to just belt out a song walking down the street, for no reason at all, but this time, singing loud is for a special friend. Nicely done Kacy. ~* Tell someone in your family that you love them today *~ |

Sharon, I don't even think anyone will complain if we are off key once in a while. Ready? I sang it about ten times last night. Someone, somewhere must have heard. Hugs to you, sister poet. |
