where the heart finds me

the Exchange (for Larry C)

She is gone. . .
The exchange offered, mine for hers
was rejected in prayer
Life

Just once more
to feel her breath, warm and alive
on my cheek as I held her -
when memories are the only proof
that a spirit cannot forget

I have complained when things were tough
or when people trespassed on respect
that I thought should have been mine
now I understand
all that truly matters in life
is
Faith
Health
and Love of Family and Friends

Lord
I know she is safely in your arms
Please
grant this one prayer and tell her:
I miss her so
and will love her everyday of my life

Amen
