I'm afraid of where I've been before
Scared of finding out
That there's really nothing more for me.

Why must I have this doubt?

You offer me your heart
Perfectly placed on untorn sleeve
And though I want to dive right in
I feel naked and naive

When I'm with you
I'm secure
Resting on wings of protection

When I'm without you
I'm exposed
Bleeding of hazy perplexion

You offer me your heart
Haplessly laced with honesty
And though I want to walk with you
I fear pain and treachery

I'm afraid of where I've been before
Scared of finding out
That there's really nothing more for me.

Why must I have this doubt?

If like so many
remembering betrayels
invoke at the very nearness
of any heart engaging beyond
wounds time hardly heal your answer
is your question as always it shall be
live in bonds of past or rise to beckoning
light either way the old wounds bleed therein
to question forth loses naught but potenital reality
